Discover the city of Saint-Denis north of Paris

Located in the Île-de-France region, the city of Saint-Denis is a commune bordering Paris. With more than 112,000 inhabitants, it is the sub-prefecture of Seine-Saint-Denis. Long considered an industrial agglomeration, the municipality has been trying since the beginning of the 21st century to follow a policy of sustainable development.

The Saint-Denis Basilica

The Saint-Denis basilica is known as the last home of illustrious kings of France. The tombs are found in a crypt built in the 3rd century AD. It is there that lies the presumed body of Saint-Denis, near which the kings and queens of France wished to rest. The tombs were desecrated during the revolution, and the remains were thrown into the mass graves of the former monks' cemetery. Today, the kings, queens and princes of France have been returned to the nave in the form of recumbents and their remains have been repatriated to an ossuary in the crypt. From a Gallo-Roman necropolis, the basilica has become over the course of history a great Gothic building of which the north spire is unfortunately missing (dismantled after being struck by lightning).

The stadium of France

Inaugurated on January 28, 1998, the Stade de France was built for the 1998 World Cup. Thus it is the stadium that hosted the final of the 1998 soccer world cup during which France was crowned world champion. In 2007, it also hosted the final of the 15-a-side rugby world cup. Since then, all the most important sports meetings are organized there. The size of the pitch is equivalent to the wingspan of an Airbus A380. A real architectural jewel in the middle of the Saint-Denis plain, the backstage area of the Stade de France is open to the public during organized visits.

The Saint-Denis plain covers the territory of three municipalities: Saint-Denis, Aubervilliers and Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine. It is one of the largest business parks built in Europe during the industrial era. It is also where most of the TV studios are located. Installed in the park EMPG (warehouses and general stores of Paris), including the recording studios 102, 107, 128, 130, 210, 217 and 224. This is where most TV shows, some TV series and reality TV programs are filmed. It is also where the offices of major production companies and audiovisual service providers are located.
