Versailles, the capital of the Yvelines department, is known throughout the world for its castle, which was the last residence of the kings of France from Louis 14 until the French Revolution of 1789. Every year, the city welcomes an average of 8 million tourists from all over the world to visit the third most visited site in the Ile-de-France region after Notre-Dame de Paris and the Louvre Museum.A UNESCO listed heritage
The Château de Versailles is renowned for being one of the most sumptuous royal residences in the world. Louis 13 undertook the restoration of the hunting lodge that he had built, but it was Louis 14 who carried out the most important work campaigns before installing his court there and housing the central power in 1682. The site is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNECSO. The architecture inside and out is impressive and the furniture is still in place. The marble courtyard, the royal flats, the great Hall of Mirrors, the royal opera house, the royal chapel and the outbuildings in the park, such as the Grand and Petit Trianon, can all be seen.
