If it is called like this, it is because of the color of the bricks which constituted a part of its ramparts which today disappeared. The city of Rennes is the capital of the department of Ille-et-Vilaine in Brittany. Located halfway between Saint-Malo and Nantes the city is very attractive, including for students who come to study in the city's universities.

Discover the heritage of Rennes

During a walk in the cobbled streets of the old town of Rennes, you will discover the medieval architecture of the facades of the half-timbered houses. You can find them in the alleys of the Chapter, the Palette and the Saint-Sauveur. The Saint-Pierre de Rennes cathedral was recently renovated. If its facade has a very simple architecture, the interior is full of little treasures starting with its stained glass windows and its altar. The city hall, built in the 18th century, is also a remarkable building for its arch, its facade and the clock tower. The architecture of the Rennes Opera House, the Parliament of Brittany as well as the Mordelaises gates (remains of the old city walls).
