Prefecture of the department of Haute-Vienne, Limoges is a city of 132,000 inhabitants located in the foothills of the Massif Central. The 28th largest French commune in terms of population, it is the second most populated city in the New Aquitaine region.

Known worldwide for its porcelain industry, Limoges is also a butcher's town and a supplier to the luxury goods industry whose economic activity is closely linked to the surrounding countryside. Nicknamed the "capital of the arts of fire", this regional metropolis is also an important administrative center and a university town that occupies an important place alongside the cities of Bordeaux and Poitiers.
