Lorient: a tourist city anchored in BrittanyLorient is located in the Brittany region, in the Morbihan department. It is the sub-prefecture of its department, the prefecture being located in Vannes. The city of Lorient is known for its pronounced Breton character, its fishing, but also its professional football club, known as the Merlus. However, there are many things to discover in Lorient, and its tourist aspect is, unfortunately, often neglected. Indeed, this city of Brittany has many assets that it would be a shame to miss.
Tourist sites to discover in LorientIf you are going out in Lorient, we advise you to pay attention to the label attributed to the city since 2006: City of Art and History. The first thing to discover is the city's port, or rather, the ports: fishing, yachting, transport, even racing, the uses of the ports are numerous, and I might as well tell you, there will always be something going on! Another point to discover is the walks proposed by the town hall, starting with the town hall and then discovering the Enclos du Port, the hypercentre, the marina, the Quai des Indes as well as the Place Aristide-Briand and the Theatre.
As we explained it, Lorient is also a historical city: a bomb shelter from the Second World War located on the Place Alsace-Lorraine, the K3 block, which is a submarine base still from the Second World War, and the Enclos du Port. In short, if you wish to discover a part of the history of our country, Lorient will be able to satisfy you.
The Lorient Interceltic Festival: the unmissable annual eventLorient is not only a port and historical city, it is also an Interceltic festival recognised throughout many countries! It's simple, this festival is 10 days and 10 nights of shows and events with 4,500 participants and over 750,000 spectators. Moreover, the majority of the shows of this festival are free (about 60%). Also, it is the occasion to discover, during a whole Breton weekend, with which you will be able to see a championship of the bagadoù, a parade broadcasted live on television, as well as various dances of Brittany. Around all this activity, you will have the opportunity to attend exhibitions, craft markets, workshops and conferences.
In short, if you have the opportunity to spend a few days in Lorient, make the most of it by going there during this festival! You can easily combine the authenticity of the city with a festival that you won't forget in a hurry...
